2017 was a very memorable year for me. It was then that I experienced the best and probably the worst moments of my life yet. But in this post, I will just talk about one of the best memories I had last year.
My first out of the country trip happened last August 2017. Actually, it was not the original plan. It just so happened that my sister had a business trip here in the Philippines and I was brokenhearted then so my family thought it would be a good idea for me to go on vacation and have a new environment. Yes, my family has always been supportive. They were concerned about me because I did something that was really out of my character (maybe I’ll post about it some other time).
We arrived in Singapore around 7 pm and I was surprised that the sun was still up at that time. After arranging our luggage at my sister’s place, we immediately proceeded to Marina Bay and there I met Merlion! When I was looking at Merlion and Marina Bay Sands, I thought to myself, “This is it! I’m really in Singapore now!” Obviously, all the tourists had pictures taken there.
Since it’s my first time in Singapore, my first meal must be none other than the Chicken Rice! It tasted good but my favorites were Beef Fried Rice and Cereal Prawn from Hawker Centre near my sister’s place. I also liked Fishball Noodle, Kway Teow, and Salted Egg Spaghetti of Just Acia. For the drinks, I noticed that they always put a lot of ice. I think it’s almost half of the cup, or sometimes even more. It’s better and you’ll save money if you’ll just bring your own bottled water.
My sister also brought me to The Feast – Orchard. It is a weekly prayer gathering with worship and joyful songs, talks, and fellowship. If you’re an Overseas Filipino Worker in Singapore and longing for a spiritual community, you can go there and join the gathering every Thursday at YMCA in Orchard. If you’re far from Orchard, you can choose from any Feasts near you. They also have it in Bugis, West, Expo, and Suntec. I was lucky enough to be able to attend two events when I was there —Jewels: The True Essence of a Woman, Beauty and Beyond and The Grand Feast — where I finally met Sis. Ditas Espanol and Bro. Obet Cabrillas respectively.
This was also another first for me and I really enjoyed it! It was nice to be in a room with people from different races. And even though I didn’t really got the chance to have a conversation with them, a simple smile was enough to know that everyone’s welcome. The studio was located in Tanjong Pagar. They told me that after the first session, I’ll have body pain. I thought so too because I find some of the positions difficult. But surprisingly, I didn’t feel any pain the following day. Hmmm, maybe I am already used to pain?!
I also met my sister’s housemates who are now like sisters to me too. I loved their simple bonding every weekend! Mostly movie night with popcorn or food trip with videoke and drinks. A few days before I go back home, we had some drinks and that was the first time I ever got drunk and even threw up. Now I know the feeling! Lol.
Overall, it was indeed a wonderful experience but what I like most about Singapore is their transport system. I must admit I really lack a sense of direction that’s why I appreciate their efficient and tourist-friendly transport system. You will not have a hard time going to places, you just have to take note of the nearest MRT station in your preferred place to visit and then just follow the signages.
I still have so much more to share about my SG trip. I will talk about my USS and Sentosa experience next time. So, that’s it for now!
